Chiselling metal

Chiselling is definitely not for beginners as it requires considerable skill, as well as well as specialist tools (a bench mounted vice and a special set of chisels).
Mark out your work as with stamping and carefully chisel in the desired pattern. This technique lends itself to a decorative pattern. However, straight lines that cross the work are easier to cut in with a saw. This effect is particularly relevant when working on a curved surface (such as a penannular brooch) because broken lines can be achieved without chiselling.
