Coin pendants

Coins - especially Arabic dihrems - were used in eastern countries as pendants. Although coin necklaces seem most popular in the eastern Viking world (especially Finland), they do appear in western areas like Iceland too.

They were most often used multiply with beads and must have represented a very rich woman. However the number of coins turned into pendants is very small compared to the number found in hoards.
