First Aid

Each group is expected to have a qualified First Aider (St Johns, Red Cross, First Aid at Work) - a copy of their certificate should be sent to the Society Health and Safety Officer (safety[at]vikingsonline.org.uk). They will be responsible for First Aid cover at Group events and should contribute to covering Medium and Major events.

Each group should also maintain an appropriate First Aid kit. The kit must at a minimum conform to the Society First Aid Kit List

When an incident occurs, an Incident Report form should be filled in.

In addition to individual group first aid cover, at every Major the Society will appoint a Duty First Aid Officer, who will have access to a Society First Aid kit.

First Aiders can be identified by a green and white armband (fig.1), which should be worn so as to be readily visible whilst the wearer is on duty.

First aid points/kits may be identified by a pennant flown from the tent ; this is a green two tail pennant with a green cross on a white background (fig.2).

The Society also has 2 defibrillators (AED) which are taken to most major events. If a defibrillator is at a show there will be a second pennant flown from it's location ; a green double tail pennant with a vertical green lightning strike on a white heart. (fig.3)

Every member having set up their camp within the LHE should find out if and where the first aid point is for that show.
