Talk:Gloves

Hi.

most gloves i see on the battlefield, whilst not looking modern, do look very out of place. most seem to be variants on the "zoidburg style" and whilst giving protection are both bulky and really really obvious. I was thinking about taking a pair of modern tactical/motorcycle gloves and then disguising them with thin strips of leather. Once curled round a sword/axe all that would be visible is the leather.

now these wouldn't have the 6 mm of padding - but then again most of the gloves i see dont either but they would have carbon fibre knuckle protection and would be nowhere near as bulky as the pair i currently use.

cost wise you can get a pair of tactical gloves for about £20-30 and the leather wouldn't be expensive so this may even be a cheaper option than some of the bought gauntlets - not as cheap as gardening gloves + carry mat though i will grant you but would provide decent levels of protection.

thoughts?

I think it really helps to have those examples, and while I understand you not wanting to give specific product endorsements it would certainly be helpful for new members, or those who just want an effective off the shelf solution, to have some pointers on where to find either retailers or makers of suitable gloves. Some of my experience of the Vike has been quite a few long term members automatically assume everyone knows everyone else, and who to go to, which is unfortunately just not the case 🤷🏻‍♂️ so anything which clears that up would be ace. Following on from the views on making your own, perhaps a link to patterns or how to advice / videos on YouTube etc along with suppliers of the tools and leather (as I found that a mine field at first) would be really helpful. Finally, If whatever unacceptable end of the market includes (modern fencing / sword fighting PPE )then including photos / descriptions of those under that banner would give much needed clarity too. But thanks for taking this on and improving the page 👍🏼 Really appreciate it Jeppe (talk) 08:34, 30 May 2020 (BST)
