Talk:Belts and buckles
- MS/BT illustrations?
- Typography/geography/dateline of metalwork?
The belt was worn as below, with the strap-end hanging down from a simple knot, often on the left hand of the body between the sword and the seax.
ANY EVIDENCE FOR THIS? AFAIK IT IS A LATER (13th C+) INTRODUCTION, I THIS SHOWN IN ANY MANUSCRIPTS, IMAGES ETC? User:Dave

no evidence for the knot, in fact there is evidence for other ways of wearing the belt. We should update this.
there is one surviving example from St. Michaels Church in Workington (Cumbria) where the belt was knotted around the plate.Jeppe (talk) 19:37, 22 April 2021 (BST)
Comment received from Stuart Strong: On the bit about bone buckles it says that they had little holes for sewing it to the belt, which might be the case, but most of the ones I’ve seen were most likely rivetted. I can’t remember off hand, but either Fishamble or Golden Lane still had the iron rivet in it when it was discovered, but both were clearly rivetted and I think I’d have to say the same for most of the other ones.
