What evidence is there for alternate coloured gores? Consider removal of 'cotton' as an underdress fabric. No mention of belts in description (i would suggest they should be uncommon at best, so generally discouraged) but the picture shows one and it is described. We draw attention to the idea that a range of items are worn from the belt, should this be something we move away from?--Nathandbeal (talk) 21:37, 13 December 2016 (GMT)

This is a "legacy page" i.e. dropped in from the old paper handbook, agree there's scope for improvement. The dress pages linked through to are a bit better, but could do with more detail and structure as in the Styleguide. +Wiglaf (talk) 10:18, 17 December 2016 (GMT)

Jeppe: We are working on new kit guides, so this will be updated appropriately when ready. I agree with moving away from cotton underdresses. There is some limited evidence for contrasting gores in illustrations. On belts and items hanging from belts: from Gotland and Birka we have evidence from tools being suspended from the brooches, not a belt. From Denmark there is no evidence for this practice - on the contrary no chains have been found connected to brooches, and at the same time tools found in graves are located in the hip region, suggesting a belt mounting of some sort. As no belt buckles are found in these graves, such a belt is most likely of fabric with a tied closure.
