Assessments

There are three main reasons we have assessments

  • 1. As a written record of your safety with a particular weapon or when participating in the LHE.
  • 2. To enable you to be recognised as having a certain level of competence with a weapon or in a craft skill, as an actor, on a horse or in a boat.
  • 3. As a mechanism by which the Society can reward you for work done as a Group Officer, or performing a particular task.

Most assessments are worth only only 1 point but some of the specialist and advanced tests carry up to three points depending on the skills demonstrated.

Combat Assessments may be taken at group level, at any Training Weekend or at shows, provided the appropriate Testing Officer(s) are present.

LHE Assessments and Craft Assessments are generally available at both Society Training Weekends and shows. The Basic Villager Test can only be taken at a show, since it involves an element of audience participation.

Acting assessments can normally be taken at both Society Training Weekends and shows, provided the appropriate Testing Officer(s) are present.

Assessments needing specific equipment (such as Cavalry Assessments or Sailing Assessments) may only be possible on a limited number of occasions throughout the year.

Kit checks can normally be taken at both Society Training Weekends and shows, provided the appropriate Testing Officer(s) are present. Contact the Authenticity High Thegn (email: authenticity[at]vikingsonline.org.uk) to arrange a kit check.

A current list of assessing officers is available here.
